DEATH OF THE SELFIE STICK
When biking through our beloved Amsterdam, it’s not hard to miss the overabundance of tourists using their selfie stick. Because let’s face the facts; using one is no longer something to be embarrassed about. Maybe you never thought you’d use one at first, but there’s a big chance you’ve already brought the fabled stick on one of your holidays.
Anyhow, this new invention by Zero Zero Robotics takes the selfie culture to a whole new level. Their invention combines two elements (drone and camera) into one compact package: “the Hover Camera”. It’s a miniature quadcopter with a built-in 12-megapixel camera and stabilising gimbal. It has a robot to track faces automatically and it’s small enough to fit your bag. How nifty!
The device does have its shortcomings though, like its battery life. Currently it only lasts for around eight minutes. But with super batteries on the rise and the price of drones dropping in general, the Hover Camera might be serious competition for the selfie-stick very soon.
What would you bring on your holiday to capture the perfect moments? Perhaps your old school analogue camera, your selfie stick, or is the Hover Camera your device of choice? Here at MARE we still very much enjoy the human connection, so for now we’ll just ask a random person on the street to take our pic.
