FASHION MAKERS

FASHION MAKERS

In their monthly talk shows Pakhuis de Zwijger  presents the best that Amsterdam can offer in terms of creation and innovation. Last week they organized the talk show “Modemakers” (Fashion Makers). Because in a world where fashion determines a large part of our identity, fast fashion has a big stage and social media is an important place to present ourselves, there are more and more movements which show a different side of fashion. Fortunately, there are fashion designers who realize that fashion is ready for a new revolution. Let’s dive in the world of the future of fashion;

Martijn van StrienPost-couture Collective
Post-couture Collective is an alternative to the current fast fashion system and an open source project facilitated by new technologies. Download your favorite Post-couture piece and simply laser cut your very own Martijn van Strien. The proces start at €5,- so it wouldn’t be rude to ask Santa Clause for one. We hear you thinking “But what about intellectual properties of the designer?”. Martijn believes in a Copy-left mindset. He wants to share his idea and let other people experiment and develop it further.

Esmay Wagemans, Second Skin
Esmay finds Instagram ‘a patronizing platform’. Naked is not allowed, at least not for woman. With her project ‘Second Skin’ she wants to bypass the censorship of Instagram and explore the boundaries between the definition of naked and the perception of what people find naked. #freethenipple

Floor van de Ven & Robin de Kruijff, W.O.M.
When Floor saw the moving work of Robin at Lowlands (De Module) she was spellbound. Because that is what Motion Paintings, a collaborative project of Robin with Coloko and Jasper van Es, does to you. The right colors in combination with the right LED ensures that the designs come to life. Would this also work on fashion?

Vera de PontPop-up
A colorful piece of textile that easily transforms into a coat of your choosing. All you need is a pair of scissors. The time consuming sewing process is eliminated with five designs that pop into shape when you put them on. Simply cut out the pattern of your favorite design and your coat is ready to wear. These coats are not only time saving but also make the production process a lot more local. Without clothes that have to fly back and forth between different continents of the world. De Pont invites us to actively prosume fashion in stead of passively consuming it. We’re in!
